At l'Été we love pearls. Pearls are timeless and worn by every generations on various occasions. From high-end dinners to weekend festivals, pearls are adding to every look. We'll explain the types pearls we offer, as well as tips for quality and care.
l'Été pearls
Wild pearls are extremely rare. Only 1 in about 10.000 wild oysters yields a pearl. So the majority of natural pearls today is cultured. Cultured pearls are formed by inserting a small bead or tissue into an oyster, which then creates a pearl. This method has made pearls more accessible and affordable. At l'Été we work with our India-based supplier for high quality fresh water pearls. They come in a variety of shapes and colours like the organic shaped Perle necklace (also great for guys in 50 cm) and asymmetrical Douce necklace.
Real of fake?
Some fake pearls can be very convincing, so how do you test if a pearl is natural? There're a couple of ways to do so. The most accessible way is by rubbing two pearls lightly against each other. Real pearls will have a slightly gritty or sandy texture, while fake pearls will feel smooth.
Wear them
It's generally better to wear pearls than to store them away, because pearls are organic gemstones that require moisture to maintain their natural beauty and glow. By wearing your pearls, you help to keep them hydrated and prevent them from drying out. The natural oils and moisture from your skin can help to keep the pearls looking shiny. Plus, pearls can elevate any outfit, so why not enjoy them?
Pearl care
That being said, it's important to take care of your pearls to ensure their longevity. Avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals or high heat, and store them in a soft pouch or jewelry box when not in use. Additionally, you can clean your pearls from a soft cloth from time to time to remove any buildup or dirt. With proper care and attention, your pearls can be the shining centerpiece of your jewelry collection for years to come.
